This Daniel Cell is an example of a Primary Voltaic Cell. The apparatus consists of a heavy-gauge copper outer vessel, which acts as the positive electrode, an internal perforated shelf for copper sulphate crystals, a porous pot, and a rod of zinc amalgam fitted with a wooden supporting cap, which is the negative electrode. The zinc rod and copper vessel are each provided with a 4mm terminal socket. The working cell has an EMF of approximately 1.1 volts.
