Students can see how particle size,
shape, and density affect the settling
rate of various materials by testing
how quickly they settle in the specially
constructed four-foot-long sedimentation
tube. Through observation, and recording
and graphing the settling rates, students
compare the results and draw conclusions
about sediment deposition in nature. It

copymasters.
